Lorena Bobbitt, who made world headlines after chopping off her husband’s manhood and throwing it away in a park, has revealed she didn’t have any problems getting a date afterwards. Twenty-one years after slicing husband John Wayne’s penis off with a kitchen knife Lorena revealed: "Believe it or not, I had quite a few gentlemen that wanted to date me." Lorena, now settled down with a partner and an eight-year-old daughter, had suffered years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of then husband Bobbitt. But when he fell asleep after a night’s drinking, Lorena, then 24, grabbed an eight inch kitchen knife and hacked off his penis. As he lay bleeding in bed in their Manassas, Virginia, home she jumped in her car and drove off, throwing the severed member out of the window into a field. Lorena, now 44, says she felt bad for what she had done.

“It was done, but it was not done on purpose. It’s sad because domestic violence put me and my ex-husband in the hospital.” But as soon as she dumped Bobbitt’s penis she had a change of heart and called police. A painstaking search found the severed penis and doctors carried out a nine-hour operation to reattach it. Now it is 20 years since she was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity after jurors accepted her “irresistible impulse" had been provoked by abuse. Now living in Gainesville, Virginia with her family and working in real estate, Lorena uses her maiden name of Gallo. But she still uses Bobbitt while carrying out charity work for homeless shelters because people recognise it.
