The Government Friday announced that Monday, June 2 will be a public holiday since Madaraka Day (June 1) falls on a Sunday. This is in accordance with the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110) of which Section 4 provides that if a national day falls on a Sunday, the following day will be a public holiday. The Madaraka Day celebrations will be held at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday. The holiday commemorates the day Kenya achieved self-rule in 1963. High security level is expected on that day as police promise to ensure safe and successful celebrations to mark Kenya’s achievements over the years.
