Machakos County raked in more than Sh50 million in earnings during the recently concluded Masaku Sevens Rugby tournament.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said the popularity of the annual rugby event is a boon for local businesses and investors. “The county, in conservative estimates, accrued over Sh50 million in earnings from the throngs of fans who attended, both to small and large businesses,” Mutua told People Daily yesterday.
Over 10,000 rugby lovers are estimated to have gone to Machakos Town for the popular three-day festival, which has gained notoriety for its lively carnival activities—earning the town the tag of ‘sin city’.
