Commuters wondered what the Dickens was going on as five spooky Miss Havishams appeared in Tube carriages and on London busses. The characters from Great Expectations - were publicising an adaptation of the novel being shown on TV channel Drama this Bank Holiday weekend After startling passengers,  they gathered in front of Big Ben at 8.40am, which is the time Charles Dickens's famous spinster stops the clocks around her when she is jilted in the book. The ghostly figures also visited the author's final resting place in Westminster Abbey. Costume designer Katya Wildman said she was inspired by a number of star portrayals of the character. She said: “We watched a number of actresses playing Miss Havisham, including Gillian Anderson, Helena Bonham Carter and Charlotte Rampling.
"We wanted to capture Miss Havisham’s ethereal beauty as well as the decaying of her clothes and spirit as a result of her long period of mourning for the wedding she never had."
