The Foreign Affairs ministry has maintained that Kenya’s diplomatic relations with Western countries remain strong.
In a statement that sought to counter media reports that indicated the relations had been affected by increasing insecurity, the ministry said Kenya was “a growing hub of diplomacy”.
The ministry said the reports were inaccurate. “These stories are misleading and mischaracterise Kenya’s increasing centrality in the multilateral arena, regional peace and security efforts,” said the statement.
Cooperating
The country is a platform for delivery of humanitarian and developmental intervention in the region, it added.

“Only the media imagines there is a breakdown in relations with them (Western countries), and indeed, with any other country accredited to Kenya.”
The government was cooperating well with its Western allies, especially the US, to combat terrorism, according to the ministry. However, the government maintained its displeasure at travel advisories against Kenya.
The warnings, according to the statement, only “allow the terrorists to believe that they are winning to the detriment, not only of Kenya, but the global community”.
“Registering our displeasure does not make a rift. Genuine partnership requires respectful two-way communication.”
Such times called the international community to come together, said the ministry.
Kenya would continue to work closely with its partners in improving security, public health, and trade, added the statement.
Foreign countries had assured Kenya that they would strengthen their commitment to the relations, said the ministry.
