Three quarters of women in Kisumu County prefer circumcised men as sexual partners, a study has revealed.

The research on ‘Women’s beliefs about male circumcision, HIV prevention, and sexual behaviours in Kisumu, Kenya’ was conducted by a group from US and Kenya.

US researchers Thomas Riess and Robert Bailey from School of Public Health at University of Illinois and Kenya’s Liverpool VCT, Care and Treatment, Research and Policy Department’s Maryline Achieng’ conducted the study on 30 women, where 77 per cent of participants confessed their preference for circumcised men.

They cited improved male hygiene and cleanliness as key benefits of the cut.

The findings are consistent with results of other studies in Nyanza.
