OLX, the leading online classified in Kenya will once again be sponsoring this year’s 2014 Social Media Awards (SOMA) following the success of the inaugural edition last year.

The awards seeks to recognize individuals who used social media positively to impact people’s lives and celebrates them.

The award will also recognize organisations who have contributed in either social, economic or political spheres.

The theme of this year’s SOMA Awards is “Making Social Media Work for You” and is set to bring together different players in the industry including corporate organizations, personalities, SMEs, students, county governments, and national government agencies.

OLX Kenya CEO, Peter Ndiangu’i said the initiative is in line with the company’s strategy to promote the growth of businesses and communication through social media.

“The Awards, which are online driven, offers a better platform to enhance product and consumer engagement through creativity and innovation,” he said.

The Director of OLX Social Media Awards, Martin Muli, said the Awards will be used to highlight the influence of social media on brand building and encourage companies to intensify online presence. He added that new categories will be introduced this year to make the Awards more exciting and inclusive.

“After the success of the inaugural Awards, we are reviewing the categories to ensure all those who have immensely contributed to the growth of social media are appreciated,” said Muli.

Last year, the OLX Social Media Awards had 25 categories including Social Media News Channel of the Year, Social Media Personality of the Year, Social Media Corporate Award of the Year and Social Media Innovation of the Year.
