Kenyan police on Thursday (June 19th) recovered the bodies of two more victims of the Lamu County attacks in an area about 15 kilometres from Mpeketoni, Kenya's Daily Nation reported.
A suspect, Salim Dyana, arrested on Wednesday, led police to the location where the bodies were discovered, according to police.
Police identified the bodies as the drivers of two vehicles that the gunmen hijacked and drove into Mpeketoni on Sunday. The driver of the third vehicle has not yet been found.
Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo announced the sacking of the police officer commanding the Mpeketoni station, Aden Ali, in the aftermath of the attacks.
Deputy President William Ruto warned on Wednesday that investigations into the incident were nearly complete and pledged that those involved in the attacks would face serious consequences.
"No one will be spared, not even politicians," he said, according to Capital FM.
Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) opposition leader Raila Odinga announced that the group's planned political rallies would continue until the ruling government agrees to engage in a national dialogue with the opposition about the security challenges facing the country.
"CORD condemns the massacres in Mpeketoni and states categorically that violence is not a means of achieving legitimate political aims or objectives," Odinga said Wednesday. "The law should take its course and nobody should be spared in the hunt for and prosecution of criminal gangs and terrorists who have compromised the safety and peace in the republic."
