The latest of many appearances of Jesus Christ’s face in food turned up in a Good Friday pancake. A cafĂ© manager in California spotted a Good Friday miracle in that morning’s breakfast orders when a face that resembled Jesus Christ turned up on a pancake.
Manager Karen Hendrickson said she was “excited and emotional” to see the face after praying to God to look after her restaurant on the eve of Good Friday. The discovery was brought to her attention by one of her employees at the Cowgirl Cafe, in Norco, California, who walked into her office with a camera-phone at the ready, saying that a pancake had just been made to order with the face of Jesus on it.
Holy pancake “My first words to her before seeing the picture was, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me’, because I thought she was joking,” said Hendrickson. “But when she showed me the picture, I was totally amazed,” Hendrickson adds. The holy pancake is only the latest in a very long line of foodstuffs on which the face of Jesus has allegedly turned up. In 2010, a curry house in Esher, Surrey received a bit of media attention after they served a customer a rogan josh and nan on which the diner, David Howlett, spotted Christ’s face peeking out. Mr Howlett said: “My wife and I were about to tuck into our food when I spotted Jesus looking right back at me. Needless to say I chose not to take a bite, and photograph it instead.’’ Another Good Friday find, and perhaps one of the stranger examples was discovered in the centre of a Kit-Kat bar in 2009. “I was amazed. I just took a bite and then I saw the face of Christ in it,” the finder told Dutch website NU.nl. Not everyone agreed however, with one witness observing: “It looks more like Darth Vader.” Jesus Christ also allegedly made an appearance in a three-cheese pizza at a Brisbane, Australia pizza parlour, which the staff promptly vacuum-packed and sold on eBay. The ad description said the pizza had already proven itself to be a lucky charm. “After discovering it, the owner of the store parked in a loading zone and didn’t get a parking ticket,” they wrote. The cheesy manifestation sold for £98.
