Kenya, like other African countries, remains unstable and seems to be retrogressing instead of progressing 50 years after independence because of sectoral leadership characterised by corruption, nepotism and tribalism. There is currently no African leader who is a role model that Africa can be proud of.
The death of anti-apartheid icon, former South Africa President Nelson Mandela left a vacuum that is yet to be filled in terms of credible, admirable and respectable leadership.
It is no surprise that the Mo Ibrahim Foundation has been unable, for two consecutive years, to find any worthy African leader to honour. There is none. Most African leaders behave as if the world is ending tomorrow. They rule through decrees and act like gods.
The Jubilee administration of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto should remember that it is a government of all Kenyans, not just two ethnic communities that came together to form a coalition. The two should ensure that all the 42 ethnic communities including the minority whites and Asians feel represented in government and are part of it for the sake of national unity, peace and stability.
Jubilee, like any national government in the world, should aim and strive to make Kenya stronger, stable and united by ensuring that they provide credible leadership and that every community enjoys the national cake equally, whether they supported it during the elections or not.
Even those who were vehemently opposed to the election of Jubilee and massively supported Raila Odinga's Cord in the March 4 general election last year like Luos, Kambas, Coastal residents, Luhyas etc. have a right, as stated in the constitution, to be involved in the running of the government.
Uhuru and Ruto are committing serious political blunders with long-term implications that will haunt them in the long-run if they think that they can run the country for five or 10 years or whatever by only championing the interests of two ethnic communities at the expense of others.
Kenya should not slide back to the dark old days of the late President Kenyatta and former President Moi who governed through divide and rule policies, polarising the country into serious tribal inclinations.
