KDF soldier killed in Mpeketoni attacks

A Kenya Defence Force soldier died after a vehicle he was travelling in vereed off the road and rolled several times at Mkunumbi area in Mpeketoni.

Six soldiers were seriously injured during the 3pm accident.

According to witnesses the vehicle was in high speed when it hit a pothole and lost control.

The injured soldiers were flown to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

The officers were heading to Witu from Hindi town to beef up security in the area after the Friday evening attacks that left seven people dead. Gunmen killed the seven at Kona Mbaya near Mambo Sasa forest in Witu after they shot at a bus and a small probox car. Four of those killed were police officers.

Following the attack KDF has deployed heavily in the area.

“It is true a KDF officer died in the accident after their vehicle lost control and overturned at around 3pm,” said a NIS officer at the scene. Lamu County commissioner Miiri Njenga also confirmed the incident.
