Kenya’s inaugural digital media boot camp will be held this month in Nairobi to help entrepreneurs maximise on the digital platforms and use them to improve profits.
The event that will be aimed at impacting knowledge on corporates and individuals to use digital media will attract delegates from private firms and government parastatals.
“It will be an opportunity for the corporates and even individuals to brand their products online and use social media not just to respond to customer queries but also improve profits,” said Jane Muriithi United States International University (USIU) Africa Marketing Manager.
Organised by USIU Africa, Nation Media Group and Globe Track International, the digital media boot camp will have the digital guru Erik Qualman as the key speaker and will run from July 24 to 25 at USIU.
Erik Qualman, also referred to as a digital dale Carnegie, is the author of Socialnomics; How social media transforms the way we live and do business.
He has also authored the book Digital Leader that made him to be voted as the 2nd “Most Likeable Author in the World” behind Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
His latest book What Happens in Vegas Stays on YouTube is already being adopted by universities and companies for training purposes.
“As the country moves towards embracing digital media in small medium enterprises, the camp will provides knowledge on trends in digital media and how to transform them to be a marketing tool,” said Jane.
She added that the event targets all people in different capacities in organisations for the knowledge on how to communicate as a team and portray the brand while selling to clients online.
“The country has not had Digital Media being taught formerly in universities and most people have learnt by experience, it is this experience that Qualman is bringing to Kenya to impact skills to all people and not just those in corporate communication and marketing,” said Jane.
Fawa, a social media manager at USIU Africa, said digital media has created employment for her despite never learning it in school.
“I majored in International Relations but ever since I started working my jobs have been on managing social media accounts for different organisations,” she added.
For her, the digital camp will provide more information that will enable her to maximize her interaction with clients online and translate it to a financial growth of the organisations she manages online presence for.
Qualman has made it in the Forbes Top 50 Digital Power Influencers list has helped grow the digital capabilities of many companies including Cadillac, EarthLink, EF Education, Yahoo, Travelzoo and AT&T.
His involvement in the digital boot camp will ensure Kenyan organisations grow their digital capabilities and compete favourably with international brands
